I posted this massive list for cheap vps and dedis earlier. From time to time some people are asking for "where do i get free vps?" And "Amazon vps are too slow!". Are they any free alternative out there? Sure.
So before you dive in, you have to ask yourselves, is this worth the effort? I've done this before on other projects that don't require serious uptime (TE stuffs) and don't need constant backup restore, but the uploading iso and preparing it is as tedius.
If you still want to try it out, then go ahead. There's no guarantee it will work flawlessly as opposed to getting a paid server with less headache.
You can get a few months of free VPS, provided you have this -
- Credit card (obviously you have right)
- Knowledge (of tecchy stuff)
- Backup strategy (reason below)
Where do we get the free VPS?
So how does this all work assuming we don't want to use amazon? We need to transfer the data every 30 days from one provider to another.
There are some caveat to this however. If your CPU ever goes up to 100% for a long period of time, windows azure and google cloud might suspend you. It used to be ok back then, but now they realized that people are using it for mining, so they suspect you are mining when you're actually not.
The only exception is Vultr and Turnkey. But that does not exclude them from suspending. As with most providers out there that's not catered specifically for running tools, and they're not dedicated resources, you will need to watch your settings.
Warning aside. Here's how you do it.
Download windows server 2012
Sign up for vultr 50$ credit. You have the choice to fully utilize 2 months of 20$ or 1 month+ of 40$
3 Follow this tutorial
4 That's it, you're in.
5 Backup your MP, restore it on other providers.
