When the same question keeps appearing under a TikTok, there are two reasonable ways to answer it: make a video attached to a comment, or publish a standalone explainer. The format might change how quickly viewers understand the setup, even if the answer itself is identical. For example, if people keep asking how a particular editing step works, record one concise demonstration. Use that answer and the same core footage in both versions. In one, let the comment provide the question; in the other, put the same question on screen as a standalone opening. Keep the spoken answer, edit, length, and call to action constant. The variable is how the question is presented, not whether one version gets a better explanation.

I’d test three or four recurring questions as matched pairs rather than decide from a single upload. Give each pair a comparable posting slot, alternate which format goes first, and wait until both versions have a useful sample before comparing them. Look at three-second retention to see whether the opening gets people oriented, then count _qualified_ follow-up actions per 100 views: specific next-step questions, relevant saves, or profile visits if those matter for the content. A possible stopping rule: after four pairs with at least 500 views per video, favor the format that improves early retention in at least three pairs without consistently reducing those follow-up actions. Otherwise, keep the choice question-specific. For anyone who has compared both formats, what signal actually changed which one you used next?

Your distinction between early retention and qualified follow-up actions is the useful one. On TikTok, I’d choose comment-reply videos when better early retention shows viewers need a quick answer in context. If standalone explainers earn more relevant saves or profile visits, I’d use those when the goal is a reference people return to or a reason to explore the profile.

I’d add one selection cue to that distinction: does the question travel without the original TikTok? “Why did you cut at that moment?” belongs in a comment-reply video because the clip supplies the context. “How do you make that transition?” can stand alone as an explainer people can find and use later.
