Well, caption always looks much better if you write something that actually has sense and not just put stuff it with hashtags.
Since you can get same effect with posting hashtags in comments, I would always keep the caption reserved for some nice text. It’s OK to put one or two hashtags if they really belong there, but if you put them just to increase reach and engagement, then comment section is the way to go.

Agreed. While I’m researching hashtags for my niche, I noticed most pic with 5k+ like have 25-29 hashtags on their first comments…
