That’s a good idea, I might try it if US doesn’t work out for me, thanks!
all you guys are saying I am experiencing it, so ill try a couple weeks more, n if it definitely doesnt work, ill switch my local SIM n play luck in my country (sad face) .
Hi everyone!
I just wanted to share my experience with switching SIM cards and using VPNs.
First of all, I would like to add that I am in touch with someone working at TikTok, and they confirmed that TikTok is looking at the SIM card FIRST, and Wi-Fi location if your device doesn’t have any SIM inserted.
I am living in Japan, I have been growing an audience in my country but I would like to translate/adapt my content to appeal to a north american audience.
I tried the SIM method with a brand new iPhone, never used elsewhere.
The content I was seeing was mainly from the US. However, my “discover page” was localised and I would only see trending hashtags in Japan.
I started publishing.
At first I was successful: even though my posts did not receive tons of views (about 50-100), my audience was based in the US and a few from Mexico.
Then I started to turn my VPN on and I noticed something very weird. My “discover page” was neither in my country nor in the US, but I was seeing trending hashtags from countries like Malaysia and Thailand, sometimes spanish keywords. The same thing would happen if I used only my SIM card, with no VPN and no Wi-Fi.
As soon as I started to post content with a VPN, my main audience was gradually starting to shift from the US to Malaysia/Thailand (from countries I wasn’t targeting and even not living in)
I stopped using the VPN but it didn’t change much. I am starting a new account to see if the VPN was the issue and if my contend is being pushed again to my targeted audience.
Will update when I get my analytics!
Have you mentioned the use of VPN? I’ve heard people saying they got banned for using VPN.
No I just directly asked how to reach a foreign audience. I wasn’t banned since my content was on the fyp in Malaysia and Thailand.
I’ve been using the foreign SIM card method for over a month now. I’m very happy with the results. Today I decided to post a video I filmed in my hometown in France a few months ago, and all of a sudden I started getting hundreds of likes from French people, when my Audience Territory has been 100% Thailand since April. How is that possible? I haven’t had a single French person watching my content since I registered.
I know it’s not ok, but I freaked out and deleted the video (with 41k views). My content is in Thai, and I don’t want any French people watching my content, which is why I’ve been using a Thai SIM card. Not sure how this happened.
Update: I cleared my cache, reuploaded the video, and it started reaching Thai people. Turns out I uploaded the video right after switching between my local and Thai SIM card. Should’ve cleared the cache and waited a bit.
What was the percentage of French people reached?
Ps: tu es francais ? Effacer ses vidéos n’aurait pas d’impact selon mon contact TikTok, ce sont je pense des spéculations.
I don’t know, since analytics update every 24 hours, but I never had any French audience, and all of a sudden I started getting tons of likes from French people only, not Thai. I deleted the video immediately. All of my likes are now from Thailand, after clearing the cache and reuploading it.
Maybe I should’ve done that too immediately after starting to get Malaysian and Thai audience!
I did not know the cache could impact future videos’ location.
I’m guessing the “get a foreign SIM card” is sometimes not enough.
But as you said you switched cards so it may be the reason.
It’s actually the only method that worked for me. Literally tried everything else. It was just a little mistake I made today, but it’s all back to normal now.
Hii, is it necessary to delete the cache everytime ? If so why and when should I do it ? Because I want to start using my usa simcard
There is no official information on this one. I believe clearing the cache doesn’t do much. The cache basically “saves” your current version of the page/app, and loads it faster. At least what it is for websites.
All you need to do is make sure you close the app, switch the SIM card, and reopen TikTok. After doing this for a while, I’ve noticed that the “switching” happens within a few minutes, so if you’re posting a video, wait 10 to 20 minutes, otherwise it may be pushed to local viewers.
Totally possible. Yesterday I started seeing local ads on my foreign SIM. They disappeared when I cleared the cache
Where do you find to buy USA SIM cards?
Provably eBay. I’m not completely sure, since I never bought one.
So I’m waiting for my US sim card that i bought recently, and i came upon this service that provides you eSim service to any country called RedteaGO, so I’ve decided to purchase a us plan eSIM and it activated. I turned off my simcard and tried use TikTok with eSIM and Wi-Fi, then i tried to take out my simcard completely and use eSIM and Wi-Fi and yet it’s still didn’t work. Maybe anyone has ideas how to get around this with eSIM?
If it doesn’t work now it will probably never.
Just wait for your tangible SIM card.
I still can’t get it to work omg… I tried VPN, still, no SIM + VPN, still…
VPN will mess up your account. I wouldn’t recommend using that. SIM card method is the best, and safest way to go around this.
Just SIM card, and on my European IP is okay? How the hell can I get USA SIM card shipped here
