Building a Portrait/Travel/Street Photography HUB - questions & thoughts

Hi fellower MP & IG mates,

I’m hoping to build a Photography HUB - the sort that fellow photographers on instagram would @me on their posts, use #hashtags related to the hub, and I’ll select the good ones to feature and shoutout to them. Feature contributors and introduce newcomers to watch etc.

Examples of such hubs already existing are

  1. portrait-related - @portraitvision @portraitmood @portraitfestival
  2. travel-related - @everydayasia

Reason why i wanna do it is because
A) for portrait-related ones, there’s a lack of one focused on our timezone (GMT+8, Asia),
also hoping to feature more asian faces

B) for both professional and personal reasons.
i’m considering a career in Social Media Marketing as I’m a Singaporean who has been working in China for the past decade. Unfortunately, i was cut off from facebook and social media thanks to the great firewall of china. my kids are born in Beijing and are now back to Singapore for studies, yet i can’t return home because my work is based in China.
i have friends who run digital agencies in Singapore and they could perhaps offer me a new job/career in social media marketing if i bring myself up to speed. and this project to create and run a photography hub could be my way to do so.

So here i am exploring ways to build one effectively… a few questions and seeking your advice

  1. is it better for me to buy an old account with >10k followers, even if the genuity of the followers can’t be verified?
i was thinking that a new account with smaller follower size won’t be attractive for contributors to engage.
idea is to erase the old posts and start posting again

  2. my personal account (which is a 3-year old account that i neglected) is currently growing at a rate of 100-120 new followers a day.
I figured, if i were to start a new hub account and grow at this rate, it would take me about four months to exceed 10k followers.
is it better to start from scratch, or do method (1) ?

cheers

I have no idea about photography  but I know something about accounts.

My advice would be to get aged account, no followers, no pics and start from scratch. It’s better than having 10K followers that are completely uninterested in your niche.

That’s true, but you’ll grow eventually and they’ll become interested in your account. Be patient, take your time. By using some tips and tricks from the forum, you can grow your account to 10K in 2 months.
