A decent bit of software that I used about 8 years ago, I totally destroyed Twitter with it, mention “iPhone” in a tweet and your comments went on fire
I think something similar is going on at the moment. Been having so much spam under my tweets.
Commenting is a better growth strategy then follow/unfollow, better engagement, links etc
