Myself I am using this on warm up and when I have an account that is getting blocks. I try to make it as humanly as possible

Yes, your setup should be working fine, and as @mrspuf said you can use the FBE when you warm up the account and around the blocks.

I assume for API emulation this is not relevant?

You can still use the FBE even with the API FE enabled, you just need to make sure that this option is unchecked

You can test it and see, if you notice that you start to have some issues you can stop the tool.
