[Guide] Why reposting content is not easy and how to do it right

It seems like a combination of oldschool lack of understanding about how sharing on the internet works, and people who think that reposting is literally equal to taking money from them, which it’s not but I can see in certain situations where it could be. However I’d also point out that after a certain age, some people don’t comprehend social media and get really fucking mad when they see feature pages giving them full credit. I mean really? I’d be thrilled to get free exposure with credit. Who cares if they benefit from it too, if I can as well.

Obviously that’s a generalization and there are definitely exceptions, but the few times I’ve encountered rage induced content sharing with credit, it was by someone over 40 who just couldn’t fathom “someone stealing my work from Instagram,” so they plaster massive watermarks across their (usually really terrible) photos, their bio consists of “ALL IMAGES ARE COPYRIGHTED BY ME IF YOU REPOST I WILL SUE YOU” kinds of wording, along with that in every post. So I guess to be fair if you repost something shared by someone like that, you’re going to have a hard time justifying it when they find out.

What i noticed is always the “little” guys complaining about stealing, usualy big and famous accounts love the exposure and know it’s the main reason why they are big in the first place.People sharing your content helps you grow and get exposure.

As long as you mention who the image belongs to “repost, photo:, etc” you’ll be ok. Now, if you’re making money, paid/sponsored post, you should not copy images from someone else.

Because I’m dumb as a rock and I didn’t know this existed.

And that exactly why Instagram DOESN’T have a share feature. And then people come here crying because their account got reported for stealing images, which by the way is one of the reasons your accounts might get banned… So much so for: “you agree to have your content shared”… Lol

Lol. That’s called ad hominem attack. Please write something meaningful instead of defending your position by attacking people.

story shares and sending via dm are not shares? shit, one story share can be seen by millions followers.
Insta tested re-gram feature a few times over that past few years and may one day make it a part of daily ig

this post is theory. real world ER is based upon content itself of what is on it, not EXE info. jesus, lets be real. this article forgot one slight detail, insta already knows if its a repost – no matter how you doctor it. to think it does not is simply niave

think about this – they have apps if you put the camera over something in a different language, press a button it will translate to your language you understand.
a form of repost via translation. thats a phone.

imagine what they have on big ass servers with expensive AI –
they know its a repost(share) and yet some popped with bans – not becuase of the share itself, but the account history(follows. unfollows --etc) The bot/users is the blame not the post – unless like porn or something against TOS

That feature embeds the original post. You do know that, right? While people who repost content simply put a tag on the caption. I mean man, this is the ABC of social media…
I’m ok with people resharing my staff using the share button provided by socials like Facebook and Twitter because it’s evident that the content was created by me. I’m not ok with people making a living stealing content on Instagram. Is that really hard to understand?
I wish some of you guys who are the defenders of reposters would face something like this in real life. People taking your work (whatever it is) for free and simply putting a small caption crediting to you. Lol.

does it matter? a share is a share. if I embed your post, does it not mean I share to new users?

mine are quote/poetry accounts – I got no problem when a user shares/reposts/dm’s/stories my poetry so I get new eyesballs .

NOT ALL REPOSTS ARE ORIGINAL NOR NEW. You make sound as if a repost carries works of gold or priceless information. The ABC’s of social media if you forgot are average plain users not us who look at followers/ER count like a holy grail. They do the most sharing - with credits or not.

This is what I repost. Tell me, how the fuck does that take money away from the author? how the fuck does that harm? get off your high horse. smell the coffee, welcome to the real world

You can auto repost very easily just by asking alot people. Most don’t care.

I honestly don’t care about other people. If you or any other person steal my pictures I will report you. And guess what? Instagram is on my side because, you CAN NOT repost without my consent. So we can do small talks all day long. But at the end of the day the TOS is on my side. Lol

I agree. If you ask is one thing, if you don’t ask is stealing.

you never replied to my questions

The question about the embed? Hell yes there is a huge difference. If you use the in-app function you are not breaking any law or TOS. Isn’t that clear to you?

then if somebody posted your content, you would not report. you say but do different

Wtf are you writing? I don’t care about your poetry or other stuff. I care about people stealing my content.

another repost. tell me – how does this take away money from the author?

Doupt they would do anything as long as it’s not art though. Selfies only will usually result in hate only saying to “remove” . Better to just ask.
