How exactly does facebook marketplace work?

I am just wondering how facebook marketplace really works. Does the renew system actually do anything for you? Are your posts shown randomly at the top / bottom / middle of the page based on when someone looks or when the page is refreshed? I am just wondering if it is even worth it to repost your listings or renew them or if facebook marketplace basically does that for you? Thank you for any info.

I have pretty good luck with marketplace. I do local ads though so it helps me target local people.
