Being able to manage to get a fast and targeted follower-gain is probably the most desired asset for Instagrammers or really users of any other social media platform.
It is also what most people struggle with. Not only because it involves skill, but it also usually involves investing money on paid methods such as ads or shoutouts.
In this post, I’d like to share organic, free strategies that I have been using to maximize targeted follower-gain for pages in diverse niches and with different sizes:
1- Use Location Tags on your posts
By using these, not only are you maximizing your posts and stories’ reach, but you also have a chance of ranking on posts that are feature in the “place” section of your explore page.
People don’t only search for pages or hashtags – they also search for specific places. If you don’t use location tags, you are ultimately wasting the chance of leveraging extra reach from this source.
If you run a page that depends on “local attention”, such as a restaurant, dentist, hair salon, etc., then always make sure to apply this!
2- Use niche-related and location-relevant hashtags
It’s no surprise that you aren’t seeing results with your hashtags if you apply them without any sort of criteria.
Your hashtag strategy should be based in hashtags that are exclusively related to your niche and to your location.
The reason why that makes such a huge difference resides in a very simple explanation:
You’ll leverage reach from people who are searching for specific hashtags. If you want to target people who are interested in your niche, the you MUST use hashtags that are related to your niche.
Also, and especially if you run a page that represents any kind of local niche or business, using location-relevant hashtags is an absolute must as well.
3- Optimize your Instagram account’s SEO from its bio
I have already mentioned this topic in a past post, although it raised some questions, as people aren’t sure of how SEO applies for your Instagram page.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. The way you optimize it on Instagram is by adding a niche-related keyword to your Instagram name (not username), as names are searchable.
By doing this, you’ll increase the likelihood of users who search for that keyword to find your page and, potentially, following it.
Again - Don’t confuse name with username. Your name appears directly below your logo.
Example: John | Entrepreneur OR Sarah | Model
4- Add a CTA (Call To Action) to your bio
By adding a CTA (Call To Action) to your bio, such as “Follow us if you’re a fitness fanatic!”, you will entice your page visitors who resonate with your niche to follow your page more easily, as that’s an extra reminder of what they can expect from your page.
5- Allow similar account suggestions
This is a hidden gem that is still quite unknown by the Instagram community, especially because it can only be done through your computer.
Here’s how to do it:
-
Go to your Instagram page’s profile on your computer;
-
Click on “Edit Profile”;
-
Scroll down until you see a box and a text on its right saying “Include your account when recommending similar accounts people might want to follow”;
-
If that box is unticked, tick it to allow your page to show up as a recommendation when someone clicks or interacts with content in the same niche as yours;
-
If that box is already ticked, you’re good to go, so just leave it as it is.
I hope that this was helpful! Let me know if you have any questions by leaving a comment below!
