I’m the Historian of a fraternity at my Uni and recently have been tasked to increase our social media’s presence.
Since this is a very unique and specific niche, I’m just wondering how I should go about user targeting for this IG? Here are some of my initial thoughts:
- Phase 1: Target people from the same school/area.
(1) My school’s IG has about 65,000 followers so it’s obviously the most important source.
(2) I can also connect the frat IG to my own Facebook and use “follow friends from Facebook” function to find relevant users (I have 900 friends, almost 2/3 of which go to the same school; a large per cent probably have IG accounts).
Question about this option: I already connect my personal IG with my own Facebook. Can I still connect this 2nd IG? Or is it better to connect it to someone’s Facebook that isn’t already on IG?
(3) Since most of my friends’ IG are private, their followers are most likely real and from the same school => Using “Follow friends of Existing Friends” to gain relevant followers.
Question about this option: “Existing friends” means my followers or my followings?
(4) If my source is still not big enough, I’ll probably use “Following using Geo Location” to follow the locals. This will probably return some irrelevant users (those who don’t go to my school).
- Phase 2: Target general population who are interested in frat life.
We will inevitably run out of followers to follow for Phase (1) within 3 months. So we can either keep the followers relevant to our contents by stop doing f/uf method and let it grow organically OR we can branch ourselves out using this account (https://www.instagram.com/totalfratmove/) as follower source. Any comment on Phase 2?
