You can be the judge yourself. If it goes through, it will definitely be on desktop as well.

I conducted a survey with my clients today about what they think.
90% She was on NO
10% She was like this
It is worth to do such a survey 
It’s good for your reputation
A lot of clients wrote that it’s great that I do such surveys, and you can see that I’m interested in the IG topic as always

I’m totally comfortable with that.
I see only benefits for every one. Every one still have same like numbers as before, plus, people will stop to buy likes, plus, ads will be manage to reach didn’t caring about number of likes.
I think it’s will be good to stop thinking “like numbers as engagement”, to start thinking to engagement as real engagement, as relationships are.

It will be bad for viral and repost accounts. You wont be able to tell which photos are doing great. Honestly I think it would be all fine and dandy if only the Ig algorithm was actually working as intended - picking the decent photos and promoting them but its not and wont be for quiet a while I think.
Keep in mind that seeing likes generates trends if photographers see lots of likes under a picture they take a similar picture as it will likely do well in the likes department. Now no one will know whether the picture is viral worthy or not and it will be harder to grow even for photographers

If they hide likes, people will no longer buy Ads because what’s the point anyway (yes yes, reach and engagement, sure). Most normal users that pay, won’t anymore. IG will most likely make possible campaigns prebuilt for follower gain (as they did on FB). That’s the end of automation as we know it, tbh. People won’t pay US to grow their accounts, but IG directly. Which was about f time they figured, tbh.

I am glad Ι read likes are gonna go away. Since IG is messing with our ER right now, IG can keep the likes for themselves and put them where they know… It is only bad reputation for me to get those numbers while only months ago it was 4x up. At least now people can concentrate only on the content. It is actually good for small accounts of high quality content which try to grow.

Do you not understand that if likes go away, people will not invest on Ads anymore, and IG will have to enable campaigns with follower gain CTA, driving 95% of our operation OOB?
