This benefits the great mass of people who are not influencers or celebrities because if they have few likes nobody sees them.
But Instagram is forgetting that if an Influencer or celebrity can not show their likes, they will choose another social network.
Likes have been hidden for weeks in Canada and I honestly don’t miss them (as a user). As a marketer, it is nice to have them so you can analyze the competition and see what works best and what doesn’t.
Instagram is giving more users the option to publicly hide the like count on their posts. The test started in Canada, where people who were included in the test had their likes hidden by default.
Do you guys think it’s a optional feature?
I think it should be where you have the choice on whether or not to show how many likes you get.
Some people like to show off, so let them be and keep it visible for them. Others can’t handle the pressure of having their terrible posts get no likes, so let them hide them too.
This is how it is in real life. Instagram should do the same.
So comments will become relevant again? Since comments have actually always been something to to check to see if the user didnt have a lot of fake likes
I’m Canadian so this already happened 2+ months ago. Didn’t really affect anyone as it turned out better for the end-user. As a social media marketer it’s mainly a minor inconvenience
I think it will have a positive impact on Instagram users viewing posts, but a negative impact on posters.
People viewing content will be focusing more on its quality without subconsciously relating it to like count.
People who are addicted to vanity metrics will have psychological breakdowns and start having personal conversations with people telling them how many likes they get on posts because they can no longer be seen publicly.
Good for those of us who are good at growing accounts so we don’t get so many notifications on each person who likes our stuff.
Also, for a marketer it can be good. Because even though I ensure people that I don’t get anyone fake followers, plenty of people follow and then never engage on a post so the follower appears fake.
