Insta prefering shorter, snappy videos?

Here’s an example of what I mean, and maybe it can help some of you guys:

I’m in the animal niche. Posted a video earlier today that was about 35 seconds long, which I cut down from 59. I have a page that gets great engagement, lots of likes, all that, so I was shocked when I only had 20 views and 2 likes after 45 minutes!

I knew the video was better than that. Or at least, it wasn’t THAT bad to get such low engagement. So i deleted it, cut it down to 15 seconds, and kept only the parts that were totally necessary and kept viewer attention. Literally EVERYTHING ELSE WAS THE SAME. Same hashtags, same captions.

Well, after 11 minutes the video has already gotten 41 likes on 115 views.

Moral of the story? Keep those videos snappy and to the point!

Your correct, but it’s not Instagram that likes it, it’s instagrams users, which is why Instagram pushes it. But it depends on the context.

Instagram pushes content with HIGH retention rates, and obviously people are more likely to sit through a 10 second one than a 1 minute one, that’s just natural.

Instagram pushes the content with the highest retention rates so it can make its users stay on there for as long as possible (more ad money).

Let’s say I had a really captivating 1 minute video that everyone watched to the end, I can guarantee you it’d perform much better than an engaging 10 second video.
