Instagram Tests Hiding Likes from Posts for Users in 7 Countries

They took it to the next level

On my accounts instagram never removed any likes

This is extremely old news. They only tested it in Canada and based on the fact that this started 4 months ago, I highly doubt it’s going to roll out globally.

What do you mean extremely old news?, This has been announced globally by big publications only 3 to 4 days ago:

It was literally announced months ago. They’ve been beta testing on Canadian accounts for several months lol. Those sites are extremely behind. Most new sources are beyond clueless. Those just say they’ve expanded the countries they’re testing. Once it gets to America, they will revert.

Refresh the page, Instagram posted a tweet about extending the test to 7 countries and it has been posted last thursday … Still old news?

Considering all they did was expand the test, yes it’s old news. You also updated your title. It won’t affect anything and nobody here for the most part expects the changes to stick.

Yes, I updated the titles to make it more clear.
Thank you for your input though

Nah currently is going on also in Italy, it was even on a national newspaper days ago:

it is the beginning of a revolution, or almost. Instagram has decided to hide the number of likes received from each post. A big change that if you haven’t reached your timeline, it is certainly visible on your friends’ timeline since it is still only a test so it will take some time before the application is updated to everyone.
In practice, under each photo or video the number of likes that that content has obtained is no longer visible: only the user who published it may have access to this information.
To be clear, there is no longer a difference between a post by Chiara Ferragni (influencer) and that of any user: no one will know how many thousands of “likes” got the first nor, vice versa, how many the second.

Users involved in the test will see a warning when the application is opened. The experiment had already been done in Canada and today (July 17) it has also begun in Italy: it is not a final decision but rather a test to probe the users’ opinion.

What is certain is that if in the future the decision will be applied definitively, it would be a great revolution for the digital marketing world and above all for the influencers who, to date, base their popularity and their profit precisely on the “likes” received at each post. “We want to help people focus on shared photos and videos, not how many likes they receive,” explained Tara Hopkins, head of public policy EMEA on social media. "We want Instagram to be a place where everyone can feel free to express themselves. We are starting several tests in more countries to learn from our global community how this initiative can improve the experience on Instagram ”.
