Jarvee 'Mute Tool' not working correctly - is it just me?

Hi mpsocial fam!

I come to you today for emotional support and possibly some advice on whether or not I am alone in my struggles with Jarvee’s mute tool.

Now, before I explain - yes, I have tried contacting support. Only about 6 times though, and unfortunately I can’t seem to find a resolution. The support line is usually pretty good, but on this issue it’s kind of hit a wall with the same responses.

the problem:
I noticed a few months ago that across all of my accounts (~15) I have started seeing a lot of users in my news feed, along with other accounts, that have not been muted.

I have recently noticed that some accounts appear to be following a lot more users than I would expect, and when I looked into it I saw that the whitelist for each user has started filling with a lot of accounts followed by Jarvee. Strange, right?

my settings:
Follow Tool:

  • Mute (ALL) users after follow (YES) & percentage = 100%
  • (YES) Send to mute tool specific users source

Unfollow Tool:

  • (NO) Also target users followed outside Jarvee
  • (YES) Use whitelist
  • (YES) Auto extract users followed outside Jarvee every 360 minutes

Mute Tool:

  • Mute Settings: (ALL)

Sources:

  • (YES) Mute users followed by Jarvee

I have only detailed the settings I felt to be relevant to this issue, if I have missed anything that is required to assist in possibly troubleshooting this issue please let me know!

It is entirely possible that I have configured things incorrectly, or I am simply dumb and overlooking something. But I am at the point of reaching out to the wider community and asking for help because I can’t seem to solve this one.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I have narrowed this issue down to the recent Instagram outages, and the “mute” issue. When theres an outage Jarvee crashes 90% of the time (the interface not the app) its at this point that the jarvee still follows if it can but its possible it cant mute at this stage. seems to only happen when Instagram goes down in my experience (I run 19 servers of Jarvee with approx 2500 accounts)

Hi Lucas! Nice to hear from you.

That’s an interesting finding, and given your sample size it seems very likely that you would be correct. It is not just recently that I have had problems muting users though - this dates back 6+ months.

I remember when I first started using Jarvee that I did not experience issues like this at all - thanks for sharing that I am not the only one who has seen this!

True, I have had the issue at other times, but I assumed it was a bug in Jarvee which was resolved as customers used to scream from high heavens if they were not muted, then went quiet and only 1 report when the recent outages came though

Hey, when you follow private users this is the reason

You cant mute private users after follow
you have to not follow private users and all users get muted

Thanks for the response @Danielschkolnikow!

That’s valuable to know, but unfortunately I do already have ‘Don’t follow private users’ checked on the Follow Tool.

I’ve also tried talking to support about people being added in the whitelist that have been followed by the program and not myself - but I also never got this resolved… numerous times.

True. Still don’t know how to fix it.

So far from my experience my guess to where the error lies is with the whitelist. As users are added to the whitelist that Jarvee has followed, it then fails to mute them and can’t unfollow them in the future.

Is a possible solution unselecting the ‘Auto extract users followed outside Jarvee’ option? I was under the impression that this option prevented Jarvee from unfollowing them in the future…does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I only had this happen once, and it happened to be a dude who bought thousands of fake followers. Constantly. Likes too, it was very bad!
As a side note the settings were the same as others who were muting successfully, copied from one client to another.

I felt like his whole account was just abused and when anything like this happened with him I always wondered if Instagram just took features away from him because of how many ways he was abusing the platform. There were days when his followers would just get cut in half out of nowhere.

Any chance your client is also someone who is doing anything like this?
Would be interesting. I’ve had this in the back of my mind for a while because it never added up as others with the same settings had no issues.

Mmm it’s still working good for me!

A few months ago I had a similar issue but I solved it cloning the account and deleting the previous one.

@cacats its a really weird problem, because I too remember back when I started Jarvee having no issues. I am not exactly sure when it started happening…maybe I’ll give this a try.

One thing to note I guess in the interests of transparency is that whenever I add a new account, I always copy the follow/unfollow/mute settings from another account of the same niche. Perhaps its a copy over error or something? I guess I can try setting an account up from scratch.

One thing I just considered…I wonder if Jarvee updates it’s whitelist for users that change their Instagram handle…? I have a suspicion that It does not…thus if a user changed their handle, I guess Jarvee would detect that user as someone who was followed outside the program perhaps?

I am not familiar with the Instagram API, and its possible that each user has a unique ID that Jarvee uses instead but just a thought…

Funny enough. I had set the mute tool to 100% since the feature rolled out. And it has never worked fully. I always get followed people on my newsfeed. I never bothered to follow up with Jarvee support since I thought it was a measure from their side to make it appear humanly such that not every followed profile is muted.
I’m just surprised that it actually works for other people without having “leaks” on the newsfeed.

On a side note, muting users after follow is dangerous. Maybe in the past it was kind of shady but now, with all the new bans, you are risking your account by using that feature.

I know is quite horrible destroying your feed with random follows but I stopped doing the mute after follow to avoid risking my account.

No “normal” user will block someone after following, only those doing automation.

do you follow private users. when they approve you they won’t be mute

@scking thank you for the response, and I believe I said earlier in this thread I am only following public users.

@tiburoncin I 100% agree. As a software/ hardware engineer myself I feel any kind of automation is easily detected by Instagram. I would be shocked beyond belief if they were not able too - I believe IG allows this on its platform for the time being, as there are pros/cons of automation for them. Currently, I haven’t had any issues with muting 100% of followed users…obviously if this changes then I will have to act on it

Wow - that’s interesting. I have sent my clients lists of the people that MP showed as being followed outside of MP (their phone) and they have denied ever following those users. I figured they were just lying. Now that I look into some of them, I can see that they all match the filters that are needed to be followed by MP - so there is a very good chance that it was MP following all along.

Mute tool works and then sometimes it doesnt. nothing is ever perfect but it works pretty damn well.

It seems for me that mute tool on jv is again not working correctly. Anyone has the same problem?
I have cheched mute all, but i can see some followed by jv users posts.
