Trump signed executive social media order - Thoughts?

Back in 2019 many of use thought the issues could be caused by politics and the US election this year.

Now we have something going on which could potentially have a big impact on social media in general.

What are your thoughts?

I’m SHOOK that he mentioned the shadowban :weary::joy:. But I’m still watching, so I’ll respond in a bit more fully.

I think Instagram will find a way to not comply while appearing to do so. So I think nothing will actually change. How can you prove a shadowban? Is it legal for Instagram to falsify your insights data so that it appears your reach is normal?

Instagram will still censor

When things are going into this direction Twitter was just the trigger for the start.
I mean it’s an executive order. Chances are high other networks are forced to follow.
From my understanding this isn’t just about Twitter.

Take a look at Zuckerberg’s response. He’s scared.

Where did you see his response? On Facebook?

I don’t know about you but in my eyes he is rowing back very hard.
We all saw and still see how far they go and how fast they block/delete stuff.

To me it seemed like he was basically saying “we’re already complying with this new bill trump is making.”

I think it will be most interesting to see how twitter responds

On the other side at 2:36 he publicly admitted how big their influence is and that they use artificial intelligence to suppress free speech. Regarding free speech it doesn’t matter if something is “junk” as long it isn’t violence or pornography.

The last response from Twitter I saw was they defending their fact checks.

What I need to look into more fully is the consequences of non-compliance. Trump said some sort of protection that is in place will be removed

From my understanding, social networks can now basically be held legally responsible for what is published on their platforms.

The problem with this is that it could theoretically lead to social networks blocking or deleting more posts to avoid the amount of charges that could bankrupt them (what is exactly the opposite of the original intention).

So it’s interesting how this executive order will be implemented in reality.

I must say, I am happy a person with enough power is saying and doing something against these social media monsters. Look at the things we could do before 2019. It was heaven! Now it got worse and worse - they are out of control. So somebody has to put them in place again. I am for capitalism but not for monopolies - And these companies are monopolies and exploit their power.
