What are the things that make you BUY?

It seems that a lot of us have done research into marketing and what causes people to buy, so maybe we are more immune to some of the more common psychological triggers.

But before you hit that ‘Buy’ button what is it that you have to know and what steps do you go through in your head?

Very good question.

Since I changed my lifestyle from a consumer to a seller, I started to think differently about the things I waste my money on.

As a marketer I started to look on the long run at the products I’m buying. When I switch to my personal life, sometimes it depends on the mood I have, sometimes on the desires. I still plan to buy the whole discography of an artist I love listening. 3 albums left.

It’s the human behaviour at the middle of the conversation. This is why the marketplace is a place for everyone i’d say.

Hmmm when you talked about the discography of an artist I think it’s heavily based on the LOVE of he artist that causes you to part with your cash.

Perhaps inside your head you feel like your helping someone you truely admire and care about.

Paid for 9/12 back in the day and never been happier than when i got them at home.

It is the love as well, that’s why I mentioned the human behavior which needs to be taken in consideration. I love the guy, that’s for sure, but I passed the chances to buy the 3 other albums because I had other priorities with the money.

Sometimes I can’t understand myself either :man_shrugging:t2::rofl:

Social Status and proof is very important for me, also testimonials and that stuff

I dont want to be ‘‘the first’’

Also I use this as a technique, when I try to make a Engagement Group with people over 50k I tell them that there are already 15 guys with 30-50k in the Group, even if he would be the first, cause I think many people dont want be the first or know that there is no social proof before

A very good question from you, that make me thinking now to realize this

Personally, it’s the value. If it creates the need for me to buy, I will. Of course social proof is equally important as I don’t want to face unnecessary trouble.

Yeah hard to determine the value of something before you purchase it.

For sure social proof and scarcity play a huge role.

Because I’ve been doing this for a while, I know all of the tricks/strategies that marketers use so I automatically filter them out, especially the B.S. ones. However, when it comes to buying things, it is really only things that I have determined that I needed to buy beforehand. Ex: If I have already been thinking that I need a certain type of software, I am more likely to buy it (Of course after doing my own research on how actual users feel about it and I weigh the pros and cons - financial, time, and other trade offs)

Yeah to be honest - sometimes I rely too much on the feedback of a quick Google and this is never perfect because it can be easily manipulated

Maybe it sounds a bit simple, but I think folks naturally gravitate towards a green button right before they buy or even request a demo / more information

I assume you’re asking this to make more from online selling.
My 2 cents.
Instead of “pushing harder” to convince them to buy ,( on the internet until there’s video to sell you can’t really do any rocket science with copywriting , theme selection ).
Just making sure it’s clean, trustworthy and brand-like feel is enough. It takes almost no money to develop an online store that looks as Brand-like and trustworthy as Apple.

Try to sell products that kind of sell themselves.
The best marketing really is a product that needs no pushing.
Weird Analogy but hear me out - Drugs , Adult Companions , etc these things just sell , their sellers don’t really bother much about conversion rate.
So an alternative approach would be find something that IS ALREADY SELLING LIKE HOT CAKES , and figure out how to get enough clicks to the sales page cheaply.

Cheers

Yes I have been thinking about this - there are certain things that people will ALWAYS need , some are full of competition - in my experience feeding into the vanity of people always pushes them over the edge.

If you make it seem like you perceive them as valuable and demonstrate you can help them even more it is much more likely to push them over the edge.

competition means there’s money to be made , i would be super cautious of something NOBODY is doing , because there’s a 99.9999% chance there’s no market .
So i guess the advice is imitate then innovate.
We need an edge anyways , so best bet it to enter a competitive space and work on developing that edge.

When I try to help complete newbies into the game the first thing I say to identify the top people in their niche and find what they are doing well.
And when I tell them this they listen to me as if I’m talking about something illegal or a different language and it always has me asking why I even bother.

i guess , the eyes only see and the ears only hear , what you truly want to find the answers to.
a person who truly wants the answer will get it , and if they don’t want it bad enough , there’s already 7 billion people experts at making excuses , no prizes to be another one.

It’s just sad though when your Shopify store is doing well and then suddenly 100 copycat stores come from nowhere.

building a moat is also part of running a business

Building a tribe is an important part of any long term business and this is how you differentiate between the imitation
