Instagram Appeal System Update - July 2020 🔧

Instagram is adding more measures to combat shitty Appeal Bots - and breaks things in the process.

In May 2020, Instagram added more security measures to combat the rise of cash-grab Appeal Bots and other low-end services, promising a quick recovery. Now, Instagram is back to tweaking the hoops people have to go through to shut down automated appeal once and for all.

The new Update (let’s call it the Verify-to-Appeal Update :smirk:) surfaced first at the end of June 2020. At first, it affected mostly users from a few selected Regions (such as Australia ) but has now gained traction into the more significant markets such as India, the US, or Europe. Affected users will receive the following message when they try to appeal the account via the official Help Page:

Confirm your account to request a review Go to Instagram and confirm that it’s you before requesting a review

Affected users will not be able to progress beyond that point. If you open the Instagram app on your phone, it greets you with the usual

Your account has been disabled for not following our terms.

And clicking the Learn More button will redirect you to the Appeal Form.

And therein lies the problem, as this semi-locks the account in a limbo state. An endless loop of trying to fill out the Appeal Form and switching to the App to verify you are a human.

Currently, there is no fix for this - Instagram either needs to roll back it’s Update or updates it’s system and the App accordingly.

Even if you are in a region that has not yet received the Verify-to-Appeal Update, you will not be able to appeal accounts that are in this state. While you can fill out the Appeal form, will receive the code email and can send in your selfie, Instagram will reply you with the following email:

Hi, If you think your account was disabled by mistake, you can let us know from within the App. Open Instagram, enter your username and password, and follow the on-screen instructions. Thanks

What’s next?

Currently, only waiting on Instagram to either revert the Update or fix what’s needed to make it work is what you can do.

If Instagram pulls through with this Update, Appeal Bots will have it a lot harder to function properly (which most of them already don’t) as it would

a) require Users to submit their Login Details

b) Access to undocumented features and API of the APP, which has hidden limits that few have mastered to use without Instagram’s knowledge. Using these in the wrong way could lead to issues where accounts get perma-banned or deleted if they found to use tools that violate the Terms of Use of the platform.

Do have an account in this state?

Hello! Thanks for this post, it’s actually very useful in clearing up all the issues I’ve encountered recently. The “Confirm you own this account” does come up for my account but not for the form you have posted above, only the one that requires you to send a message box inside the form.

I’ve never had any luck with appealing through the app for some reason, in particular with the form that pops up when I try to login even if you click personal account it asks you to submit a form of ID, however in my experience Instagram NEVER once replied through that form.

However the normal form (https://help.instagram.com/contact/1652567838289083) seems to still work for me ONLY if I’m lucky but their email responses seem to be the same (different to your one posted above) but now they don’t post the link to the appeal form anymore inside the actually reply. Maybe that confirms that they’re aware with the issue.

We can also now request our accounts information when putting your login information. This used to be a feature for accounts being deactivated in 30 days however it has also been added to accounts deactivated before the change earlier this year.

Thanks for writing this post. A few weeks ago I almost tried an appeal bot because I thought I would be able to recover the account more quickly with the bot help.

Sadly there are no real shortcuts, so the bot doesn’t speed up anything but just shifts what needs to be done (which is ok) - as long as it does it in a good way. But emulating the Phone API is not as trivial as we all should know (just ask @Stiletto)
Maybe Jarvee can integrate appeals one via the API (if IG settles on this)

Some people simply get lucky, others not so much :frowning:

Thanks for the update on the Appeal System. I’ll keep this in mind if I run into this kind of loop so I can test out some options.

I’m wondering the same thing… What is the reason IG disabled your account?

From my attached screenshot you an see a bunch of Accounts recovered in the last few days - as usual with the random timing. Or do you mean a counts stuck in the loop?

Hello, my account got deactivated for an unknown reason I’m not using any third app or posting nude…
I tried to get it back with this form link but never had any reply. I also tried another link where they ask you to send a selfie with a code but then they are just replying “It looks like your account has been disabled.” and giving me another form link to complete with of course no reply again.

Any help?

This form seems to be working for me again, try it out.

Thank you, I tried it out they asked for a selfie with a code, will see. But I already sent 2 selfie with another form like that and they just replied with an automated message saying

It looks like your account has been disabled. We disable Instagram accounts that don’t follow our Terms of Use. Actions that are against our terms include:

  • Continued prohibited behavior after receiving a warning or multiple warnings from Instagram
  • Unsolicited contact with others for the purpose of harassment, advertising, promoting, dating or other inappropriate conduct
  • Impersonation of a person or entity, or other misrepresentation of identity
  • Posting content that infringes or violates someone else’s rights or otherwise violates the law
  • Posting content that violates our Terms of Use

If you believe your account was deactivated by mistake, please complete this form to request a review: “form url”

When I then fill the form I got absolutely no answer from them. Are they replying something to you or do you also get this message?

An answer can take up to 48 hrs after submitting the selfie. If you spam the form too much ( I would suggest appealing once per day, twice or three times can already lock some accounts) you and the account will get temp-locked from appealing.

The limits of IG also apply to the help center

Didn’t know that, thanks. I apply once per day or every 2 days.
I never got any real reply though only the message in my previous post after sending the selfie.

Also that reply that you received above just means that they’ve denied your appeal so they send you that automated message. That means your appeals are being reviewed by Instagram though! Keep trying!

I just received the same message again. Should I bother completing the form they are sending me to request a review or should I just wait a day or two and completing the form where they request a selfie?

Depends on your free time really, I usually stick with the selfie form exclusively

Ok thank you for all your advice. I’m new to Instagram and got deleted just few weeks after I started. Will let you know how it goes. Thank you
