Many ask am I shadowbanned? While not knowing what the hell it is!!
A shadowban is when your posts gets limited to views only by your followers. That means your post cannot make explore, How do you know if you are shadowed?
Go into an account that does not follow your account you want to find out if shadowed. Look up a hashtag you just used ( preferebly #accountname hashtag if you use one) and see if your post comes up. If it does not, your shadowbanned.
So - just what is the main reason? Simple, using banned or semibanned hashtags. Take for example
#petite or #romance
look them up and go all the way to the bottom… you will see this
it is a semi banned hashtag. If you use it, you WILL get shadow banned.
How do you get out of it? Simple delete ALL banned and semi banned hashtags from the last few posts if just recent, else you need to find ALL and delete them. Same goes for banned ones also.
How do you find which hashtags are bad? Look them up…and test.

I will add that using a desktop and using mobile will produce very different results at times.

Another reason for shadowban is using same list of hashtags.
Always choose the random ones from a list.
PS: do avoid the above banned list of hashtags as well.

Don’t hashtags get banned and unbanned? I saw a brand hashtag get banned once and then a few days later it was fixed. I think that if the porn ppl take over a hashtag IG just blocks it for a while to get it cleaned up. Thats why maybe Kansas etc were blocked for a while and not now.

Sorry for necro posting. Is it possible to not be shadowbanned from hashtags but to be shadowed from explore? I recently switched to business account on my personal profile, getting a lot of reach from hashtags (in fact it’s at the very top above Home) and constatntly making it to the top 9 of hashtags. I did check on other profiles that did not follow me and the posts show up.
Question though: I don’t think I make it to Explore. It could be about the content of course, but considering that I get plenty of engagement within the first minutes of posting I would assume at least some post would make it there. So can someone be shadowed from Explore feed? Thanks.

At least that seems to be what is happening to me right now. I was shadowbanned (for reasons I can’t imagine) but a few days later the ban was lifted. However my reach is obviously throttled. I was hitting explore quite often before that but now never. Besides I am also shadowbanned from geotags still lol. IG is inventing new ways to screw up people
to sort the good form the bad, just deleted all the hashags from all his posts. It worked. Account had no long term damage.
