Update:
Now posting videos in a more entertaining timbre as opposed to more serious musical ideas, and the views have gone up tenfold. It really does seem that TikTok is like a more elaborate version of Vine. People want to be very briefly entertained, and the completion rate on shorter videos of between 9 and 15 seconds or so seems to greatly affect reach.
Highly recommend trying to focus on highly entertaining, shorter videos for optimum results. Think of your videos as a literal quick high. You want to concisely relate to an easily accessible aspect of human nature - this will get you the views you want.
Also, another observation:
It seems that if a post does not receive good engagement after the initial completion rate being high, it caps your view count at a certain point and your video is no longer shown. So I highly recommend optimizing captions and videos for engagement.
